This specimen was made in the first year of production (854 = year 1854).
These short rifles were used by Austrian Jaegers during the Italian War of 1859, Danish War of 1864 and the Austro-Prussian war of 1866.
During 1867-69 many were converted to Waenzel M.1867 breechloaders using 14mm rim-fire cartridges.
