This is a Beringer-system rifle by Henry Alport of Cork ( Ireland)
This rifle is substantial: 48 inches overall, 31 1/4 inch barrel, .38 caliber; it uses a 10 mm breech cap.
I have collected photos and accompanying descriptions of a half-dozen or so Beringer system rifles. Three have sling attachments, and one other is described as a "sporting gun", so these rifles were clearly designed for killing birds, and perhaps small animals, outdoors.
