SHEFFIELD made Bowie knife with built in single shot percussion pistol. The approximate caliber is .26, the double edged blade with spear-point is ~ 8½" long, the panels are made from steel in a way, that they appear to be stag horn. It is a very uncommon system I did not find in "Blades and Barrels" nor other books. The long spring is also hammer, and in cocked position it is about 1½½" over the piston. Pushing the round button backward the spring hits the cap/piston. On the ricasso is a partial readable inscription:
James Buxton, 113 Thomas Street (1848-1864)
