FINE GEORGE III FLINTLOCK PERCUSSION CONVERSION DUELLING PISTOL BY R. WOGDON, CIRCA 1775.
16" overall with 11" octagonal Damascus .52 caliber barrel. Walnut stock with blued steel mounts. Original rosewood ramrod with horn tip.
Signed Wogdon on lock and faintly on inlaid oval silver barrel cartouche. Classic Wogdon dueller with conversion of the 1820's. Very possibly by his and Barton's successor, Richard Sefferns, who worked until the late 1820's or early 30's. Fine conversion with the engraving style of Wogdon in the flint era (screws included) copied for the conversion on the lock, hammer and hammer screw.
Extra fine overall with all the original stock finish and crisp metal patina. Old round silver escutcheon inset into stock opposite lock engraved in script "JDB"- definitely of the period.
Wogdon was the most famous of all the duelling pistol maker's of his day.
