Llama Extra Mod. IV(Bergmann Bayard)
Cal. 9x23mm Largo
Very impressive large frame Spanish semi-automatic pistol manufactured by GABILONDO Y CIA, ELGOIBAR (ESPANA) in 1940, and accordingly marked on the left side of the slide and frame. The caliber is stamped just below the maker's name, "CAL 9M/M 38 "LLAMA"". Model IV was introduced in 1931, and it was actually the first of Llama series. The right side of the slide displays model name, ""LLAMA" EXTRA" (this may indicate that the pistol was exported either to Mexico, or to some other Latin American country). The locked-breech design with grip safety copies all the best features of Colt 1911. The firing "tolerant chamber" allowed the gun to fire not only the standard 9mm Largo cartridge, but also 9mm Luger and 9mm Steyr as well, at least that is what Gabilondo has advertised (in my opinion it is not safe to fire the pistol with other than 9 mm Largo ammo!). The "tolerant chamber" was designed to compete with Astra 400 pistol.
