"Carabinieri Reali" Lefaucheux Revolver

Eugène Lefaucheux manufactured 5,000 of these revolvers in 1861, on behalf of king Victor Emmanuel ll of Italy's Carabinieri reali.

This revolver is made on basis of the civilian 1854 model, however with a 120 mm long barrel, and without ejector rod. The Carabinieri had ordered these special features, for they wanted a lighter model. They did not want the ejector rod mounted on the gun, for the rod, made of iron, tended too much to bend. Lefaucheux joined a separate, much heavier brass rod, provided with threads for the use of cleaning material.

After this contract of 5,000 revolvers, production was taken over by the Italian manufacture of Glisenti, that even issued an identical revolver, but with an ejector rod and a quite longer barrel lug.
