Lefaucheux Eugène

Here is a well marked Chamelot-Delvigne mod 1862 revolver called "left-handed" because the loading door is on the left of the weapon, while the vast majority of revolvers have their door on the right. The door on the left is however much more logical (for a right-handed person of course...).

The markings

EL crowned: almost certainly Eugène Lefaucheux and his Liège factory

ELG on star: acceptance between 1846 and 1893

V crowned: countermark of a controller, between 1853 and 1877.

The specialist in Swiss weapons also tells us this:

To my knowledge these pieces did not receive a military hallmark, except perhaps the cantonal hallmark.

I believe I know that a revolver identical to the research exists or existed at the Berne museum under the number 482.

This revolver would have been manufactured by the Pirlot-Frères in compliance with the patent filed by Chamelot-Delvigne.
