PERRIN 1859

Exhibition Engraved and Embellished Perrin French Civil War Revolver.

75% gold wash over what appears to be Louis D. Nimschke engarving with wonderful panels.

The left panel depicts a lion subduing a serpent and the right panel features a tiger or leopard in a landscape.

1000 Perrin revolvers were issued to Union troops during the Civil War.

This ultra deluxe exhibition engraved French revolver is marked “PERRIN/ & CIE. BTE” and “Paris” on the right side of the frame and serial numbered 886 on the frame, bbl., and inside of grip.

The elaborate engraving is in the Louis D. Nimschke style and the panel scenes are also quite possibly the work of the great master or his shop. The left panel depicts a lion subduing a serpent and the right panel features a Nimschke style tiger in a landscape. Overall the engraving is extensive and very masterfully executed.

The one piece highly figured walnut grip is fitted with buttcap engraved end suite and lanyard loop.

Condition is excellent as is common with exhibition pieces engraved in the New York style. Revolver retains 75% of its gold wash/gilding over a silver plated ground.

This Perrin is an extremely elaborate showy Civil War period engraved revolver, obviously a special order, and possibly unique.
