A. FRANCHI

Here is a pistol that has me stumped, it is clearly marked A. Franchi on top of the barrels - that would seem to be an Italian name, but I can find no bibliography anywhere concerning an A. Franchi from Italy. There is a L. Franchi who made revolvers and many shotguns in the 20th century, but very little information on Italian guns from the 19th.

This is a pistol with 2 barrels, centerfire in which a 45 Eley fits the chamber. There is no serial number, the barrels are 4 1/2 inches long and overall it is 9 1/4 inches long. There is minor engraving on the action and it has carved ebony grips. On the top, between the two barrels, it is marked: A FRANCHI.
