ALLEN & THURBER

Shotgun hammer pistol

This pistol belong to the family of firearms known by various names like “Shotgun Hammer” pistols, also referred to as “Center Hammer” or “Boot” pistols, and identified as the No.6 “Rifled” Pistol. The reason behind these names is fairly straightforward. The pistols were produced over a long period, both in the Allen & Thurber and in the Allen & Wheelock period.

For individuals seeking a straightforward, durable, and reasonably priced firearm with considerable firepower, this pistol stood as an excellent option. It was available in different calibers (.32, .36, and .44) and came with barrel lengths spanning from 3 inches to 12 inches. The pistols have a simple-action mechanism, lacking a half-cock position on the hammer. The standard model featured a blued finish and walnut grips. Markings on these pistols were rather scarce. Typically, one side of the barrel bore the manufacturer’s name, while the other side displayed a serial number.

The shown pistol has a 5" barrel and has the Allen & Thurber marking.
