Colt Lightning Rifle
The Colt Lightning Magazine Rifle in cal 22 short or long (= "small frame") was made from 1887 to 1904.
It had a slide action and nearly 89.000 Colts Lightning rifles and carbines were made in that period.
Cartridges were loaded through the brass loading gate that pivoted outward.
Standard rifle barrel was 24 inch long; the stock was walnut; all metal parts (except the hammer) were blued.
All sorts of extras could be ordered from the factory, such as the adjustable sights on this example.
Colts first patent for this system dates from 1833 and the competing slide action Winchester was not on the market until 1890 !
