Colt New
Line cal 30 rimfire
From what I can see, this revolver is an authentic Colt
New Line .30 (Pony Colt). Unlike the example shown below, this one shows no
differences or modifications, apart from the addition of the Faure-Lepage name
on the barrel.
This tends to confirm my observation regarding the
unusual and somewhat crude cylinder pin head of the example already on our site.
I think it was made later by someone other than Faure-Lepage. This demonstrates
that Faure-Lepage did not modify the weapons of other manufacturers that he
purchased in any way, except by adding his signature, as many dealers did at the
time.
Unfortunately, I cannot say
more at the moment. This is the second of this type that we have encountered,
and the information I have written in my article is all we have. Its serial
number, 5650, indicates that your firearm was manufactured in 1875.
Approximately 11,000 Colt revolvers in .30 caliber were produced between 1874
and 1876.
This revolver
is the only Colt pistol ever made in this caliber.

Colt New
Line cal 30 rimfire
Colt "New Line" series, .30 caliber.
Produced for only three years, from 1874 to 1876, with a
total of 11,000 units. It is the ONLY .30 caliber handgun in the entire Colt
family to this day.
According to Wilson's list, production dates are based on
serial numbers: #1 in 1874, #2 to #1500 in 1875, and the rest in 1876. This
particular example dates from 1876.
I do not know the precise number of examples with the CF
and ring-lock versions.
This is in no way a plagiarism or a blatant copy;
Fauré-Lepage has respected all the original markings. Only the cylinder rod head
is not original.
