Conçue par John M. Browning l'arme a été produite de 1887 à 1901 à +/-65.000 exemplaires en version plain (30$) et fancy (48 $).
Elle a été remplacée par le modèle 1901 conçu pour des munitions à poudre sans fumée en calibre 10 uniquement, fabriqué jusqu'en 1920 à 79.455 exemplaires.
Comme Browning l'avait prédit ce système fut supplanté par des armes à pompe mieux adaptées à la munition utilisée : Winchester 1893 (PN) et surtout 1897 (PSF) qui fut déclinée en de multiples versions (battue, ball-trap, tir au pigeon, de brousse, anti-émeute, de tranchée) et fabriquée jusqu'en 1945.
Actuellement des reproductions de la 1901 sont fabriquées par ADI ltd of Australia et NORINCO (en cal. 12).

Conceived by John Mr. Browning the weapon was produced of 1887 to 1901 with +-65.000 exemplary in version “plain” (30$) and “fancy” (48 $).
It was replaced by the model 1901 designed for ammunition with powder without smoke in 10ga only, manufactured until 1920 to 79.455 specimens.
As Browning had predicted this system was supplanted by pump weapons adapted better to the ammunition used: Winchester 1893 (Black powder) and especially 1897 (Powder without smoke) which was declined in multiple versions (beaten, ball-trap, shooting with the pigeon, of bush, riot gun) and was manufactured until 1945.
Currently reproductions of the 1901 are manufactured by ADI ltd of Australia and NORINCO (in 12ga).

Predominant action finish is a silver/grey patina.
30" barrel length, magazines internal and sights is gold bead.
The serial number indicates a manufacture of 1893
