Antique WINCHESTER in 405WCF
I know this makes no sense, I'll explain!
Frame shows serial number 17901 making it made in 1898. It was most likely sent back for the 405 barrel when Winchester introduced this chambering in 1904. This gun has several English features, which tells me it was probably customised and used by an English hunter on safari in Africa – This was a known practice.
Metal is mostly a dark patina.
24" barrel.
Rear of barrel shows the cordite proofs in the proper form. Rear tang safety has been added during period of use.

Je sais que ce calibre ne semble pas raisonnable, j'explique !
La culasse porte le numéro de série 17901 nous donnant l’année de production 1898. Elle a été très probablement été renvoyée pour être chambré en 405 parce que Winchester n’a introduit ce calibre qu’en 1904. Cette arme a plusieurs marquages anglais, qui m'indique qu'elle a été probablement été adaptée aux besoins du client et utilisée par un chasseur anglais pour le safari en Afrique - c'était une pratique connue.
Le métal porte pour la plupart une patine foncée.
La canon mesure 24 ".
L'arrière du canon montre les marquages de l’épreuve de cordite sous la forme appropriée. La sûreté à l’arrière de la langue du canon a été ajoutée pendant la période d'utilisation.
