Edwin &George Hackett
E&G Hackett 10 Ga. Hammer Double Shotgun
This double has Back Action style locks engraved "E+G Hackett Patent Rebounding Locks". The top lever is engraved "Walkers/1412/Patent" Edwin and George Hackett are listed in Birmingham as "Gun, Pistol, and Rifle Maker" 49 Prince St. 1859-1860 and 34 Lower Loveday Street 1861-1875. The top rib shows a London address of 37 Grace Church St. where they evidently had a retail outlet from 1876-1878. Birmingham proofs and marked as 11 bore, this 29 3/4". The walnut stock has a straight hand with checkering. The forend is wedge fastened and also chequered. The engraving is border only and the screw heads done in geometric patterns.
