These pistols - with or without bayonets - seem to be a specialty of Eibar and are all more or less identical, with especially the same checkerboard engraving, regardless of the manufacturer.

The examples encountered, ranging from 5 mm to .20 caliber, always pinfire.

General characteristics:

- 2 barrels cut from a single block (except the cal. 20)

- Checkered engraving on both sides of the case

- Quality rather at the hardware level

- Rarely marked (I only had one marked, from Arizmendi Hermanos)

- 2 retractable and fragile triggers, not very practical

- Most of the parts are not hardened

- Side opening button + spring

- Wooden stock, a little cut in a "renaissance" way

- Unless I am mistaken, NO proof mark

- Apparently made by various gunsmiths from Eibar

- Possible finishes:

- Fully polished white

- Fully chromed

- Polished white/chromed frame and blued barrels

- Fully marbled (probably a fake marbled)

- Optional spring bayonet

Most often in a lamentable state, but some have been well preserved. Historically mysterious, I have never found any explanation about these "machines" yet probably popular since they are found everywhere quite regularly. I have seen some 5 mm steel (?) frames cast, so quite recent. I suppose that we also find a lot of them in South America, where this type of weapon is very popular.
