Apparently only 60 Mod. "AS" pistols were modified by an importer to fire the .38 Super Auto caliber. This one is probably one of those 60 pieces and was then engraved/damascused to a high quality. Toledo, among others, is known for work of this kind. Visible in Albert Simon's book "Self-loading pistols from the Basque Country" pages 172/173. An absolutely extraordinary piece.
