GRENU H.

Rifle with vertical percussion (pinfire) of type LEFAUCHEUX made in Liège by an arms manufacturer remained unknown.

That was often the case Mr. H.GRENU in NANTES was patentee (unknown?) which related to this weapon i.e. an unspecified improvement of Lefaucheux rifle.

The weapon is with double key Lefaucheux. The trigger guard is with volutes. The stick in walnut is worked "with English". Engraving is "with bouquets". Locks are of type “behind” and the hammers of the dolphins type.

The weapon carries the punches indicating its origin i.e. the proofhouse of Liege, namely:

ELG* in a crowned oval: final acceptance, of use of 1853 to 1893.

step: inspection, of use of 1853 to our days.

EL in English letters: provisional test, of use of 1852 to our days.

N crowned: countermark of the controller, of use of 1853 to 1877.

17.0: gauge in mm, of use of 1889 (?) at our days.

The manufacturer of Liège unfortunately did not leave any mark or indication allowing to identify it !
