Lefaucheux Swede

In 1863 Sweden bought 1065 revolvers type 1858.

These “model réglementaire1863” are easily identifiable by their punch with the three crowns affixed of the right side of the thunder. They carry moreover the Lefaucheux punches.

In 1872, Eugene Lefaucheux obtained, as supplier of the government of Sweden, the cross of Knight of Wasa. (Extracted from a manuscript ever published of Mr Lautissier).

Lefaucheux presented under number LF 60547 comes from the collection of Mr. Lautissier.

Hello Mr. Van Mastrigt

No the doubt, the three crowns on the right side are well a punch of Swedish acceptance. They is curious, it is acted in fact of the model which one baptized “Légionary”, with the barrel runs like that of Carabinieri Italian, but also a rod of ejection. It is not one 1858, but well one 1854 with round trigger guard, and it was manufactured and sold by E. Lefaucheux since it does not carry the logo of Manuf of St Etienne. Perhaps your shorter barrel revolver was allotted to an officer.

This revolver was useful in the Swedish NAVY of 1863 to 1884, before being replaced by Chamelot-Delvigne 1873.

The circle barred of a cross on the frame indicates the downgrading of the weapon by the Navy. The navy received only 890 specimens of this revolver, while the army in received 1.100. , which corresponds to the 2.000 bought by Sweden in 1863 directly in Eugene Lefaucheux, street Vivienne in Paris.

Certain authors place the n°s of series of the Swedish contract between 78000 and 80500, but yours lunatic this assumption formally.

On its side, the Swedish Army adopted, in 1871, the Lefaucheux-Francotte model with central percussion. The model 1854 was thus useful only until approximately 1870.

Your revolver thus has without any possible doubt, been used for the Swedish Navy between 1863 and 1884. For more details, to see work of Chris Curtis, “Lefaucheux System”, page 99 excel it. Interesting and undoubtedly rather rare weapon considering the little of produced specimens.

 Marcel
