Elegant French Flintlock Double Barrel Fowling Piece by Veuve Peyret-Dubois, St. Etienne, circa 1780-84

20 gauge, 38 1/2-inch side-by-side part round, part octagonal barrels, with solid rib, gilt embellishments and engraving at octagonal breech, including marking "Canon Tordu" on toprib; maker and address marking on locks, engraved in script; lightly engraved steel mountings; relief cast and chased aristocratic silver thumbpiece escutcheon, surmounted by crown, and with prancing lion and dolphin motifs. Finely and elegantly relief carved select walnut halfstock, with floral and scroll motifs. Horn tipped wood ramrod. Sling swivels.
