RIEGER
Lefaucheux - Rieger
Copy of
S&W in the Liège fashion (K*)
LEFAUCHEUX brand rue de Vivienne in PARIS (reseller).
GG
Lefaucheux, 37 rue vivienne Paris ...... it is not Eugène Lefaucheux since he
definitively leaves 37 in 1856. (The company E.LEFAUCHEUX ET CIE. in 1860)
It is
Mrs. Veuve Casimir Lefaucheux who manages the store at 37 after the death of her
husband.
When she
dies on January 2, 1863, it is her daughter, married to Laffiteau, who inherits
the store with the authorization to use the name LEFAUCHEUX (Without E. in
front, initial reserved for Eugène).
In 1869
the daughter dies, without children, so it is Laffiteau who takes over.
In 1876
Rieger took over from Laffiteau, and around 1905 (I don't know the exact date)
the house was bought by Modé.
On this
S&W revolver (whose manufacturing date I don't know) I don't see an ELG but a
starred letter, so after January 1877.
This
revolver was therefore bought by Rieger in Belgium and marketed at 37 rue
Vivienne (Address still valid in 1898, seen on a postal letter).
Modé's
address in 1914 is 91 rue Richelieu (Seen on an invoice).
The
building at 37 rue Vivienne was demolished in 1920 to make way for the current
"Minerve" building.
