According to the owner, it is about a shotgun to juxtaposed barrels of mark ROCHATTE to direct percussion and gauge 12 X 65.

The unrifled bores are in Damas.

The opening is practiced using the key under trigger guard;

The stick out of wooden of walnut is worked “with English”.

Punches

The weapon carries the lawful punches of the proofhouse of Liege, namely:

ELG on star in a vertical oval: final acceptance, of use of 1846 to 1893.

M spangled: countermark of the controller post 1877.

Peron: inspection post 1853.

EL in English letters: provisional test, of use of 1852 to our days.

NOT FOR BALL: choke unrifled bores, of use of 1878 to 1897.

Marks

The band joining together the barrels is marked “SYSTEM H.ROCHATTE BREVETE A PARIS “. Parisian arms manufacturer having succeeded BERINGER.

Like the majority of the French inventive arms manufacturers, it made manufacture his weapon in Liege where the labour was much more accessible.

In this case and within sight of crowned mark AF, the manufacturer would be Auguste FRANCOTTE, street Holy Mont Martin, 61 in LIEGE (see its card on the site).

N° 4993: serial number.

HR in a vertical oval: mark of the inventor H. ROCHATTE.
