Manufacture d'armes de Saint-Étienne.

The study of this weapon began in 1967, its initial version named F1 will be sold to more than 400,000 copies in France and in some foreign countries.

Too complex and especially too expensive to maintain, it was never massively purchased by any other country (the price was almost double that of an American M16 assault rifle).

The production of the FAMAS ceased in 1992.

Its maintenance is today ensured by the Nexter Mechanics factory in Tulle, formerly the Manufacture d'armes de Tulle.

This one is a rather rare model, it is in .223, not a remodified .222.

And here's another one!
