It is the only pistol which, for its reduced dimensions, does not have any common part with other models Piedmontese. It has the mechanism “of short pistol”, and with the wood which arrives almost at the mouth of the barrel.
Counter-lock, the end of stick, the guard of trigger and the ring of barrel are out of brass. What distinguishes it in an obvious way of the French pistol from gendarmerie models AN IX, this weapon repeats dimensions, caliber and the general aspect, but on the other hand has all the steel accessories of it.
The counter lock has its round external surface. The guard of trigger is lengthened in a long band which arrives almost at the end of the handle. The trigger is right. The rod is out of steel.
This weapon was assigned in Carabinieri Reali since the constitution of the body, in 1814. In the lists of the time however it is brought back without announcing the date of adoption, since it is about the single model of pistol flintlock realized expressly for the Carabinieri, and thus there are no possible ambiguities. The year of adoption became on the other hand an essential element of identification when there were several models of pistols (or rifles, or moschetti, etc) adopted in chronological succession for the same body.
In the Army of King of Sardaigne one never threw nothing with the dustbin and that it is true.
In this case, the pistol which one asks the origin is a lawful model with various parts.
The lock, of which the length must be 10,7 cm, is pistol for Carabinieri adopted the year 1814, of origin flintlock, transform with percussion, with the hammer of 3rd type, the last adoptee.
The barrel, born with percussion, is model 1844 for Carabinieri Reali, one recognizes it with the support chimney round, which was also used for the first specimens of barrel MOD. 1847 for Carabinieri Reali.
