Machine pistol 1941/44
The PM
41/44, as its name suggests, entered service with the Swiss Army in its first
form in 1941, a period during which the army was desperately lacking a weapon of
this type.
In its 41
version, everything made of wood on the Model 44 presented here is made of
Bakelite. However, wood quickly replaced Bakelite. Few Model 41s survived the 44
transformation.
The
weapon was created in a hurry and distributed to the troops without testing. Its
production was quickly suspended in favor of the PM 43/44 designed by Suomi and
produced by Hispano-Suiza.
This PM
is nothing other than a scale model of the 25 submachine gun... Its barrel, its
toggle-lock breech, its side magazine with right-hand mounting, its disassembly
system... everything is related to the FM 25.
It was
designed by Furrer and produced by the Waffenfabrik of Bern. It was produced
from 1942 to 1944, with serial numbers ranging from 10051 to 19859, i.e., only
95 pieces in 1942, 4844 in 1943, and the rest in 1944. The weapon presented
dates from 1944.
