Trap door
It is
about a cannon warning signal or trap of door.
A string was
connected to one of the bored ends of brass star and the other end connected to
a door for example.
By opening the door
the tended string started the percussion.
Other uses could also
be imagined (protection of the hen houses against foxes etc)
The single goal of
this part was to make noise because the cartridges were to blank!!
This
machine bear the soft name of “Gendarme”, evocative, not?
It is not
thus a question of a weapon although a cartridge can be drawn. This use is to be
strongly misadvised!
