DEVISME Jean-Louis François
Concerning my Devisme revolver, which is curious to say the least, I have just,
after much research, found one with the same system of this plate added on the
side!
The
hammer of mine is in two parts, but when I see this one, it must not have been
very practical to cock it; I can therefore imagine very well that the owner of
mine wanted to have it modified, hence this configuration of an added part.
As such,
we have not finished discovering strange things.
So there
was an intermediate version, certainly in very few copies.

DEVISME Jean-Louis François
I present
you a revolver Devisme model 1858 in box.
This is
therefore the version with percussion, with an inner hammer offset in contrast
to the first models of 1855 which had an outer hammer.
Features:
- total
length 33.6 cm.
- caliber
10.3 mm.
-
chimneys "with rods".
- serial
number 411 on different parts, and number 7957 on the right plate.
- DV
punch crowned with Devisme in different places, attesting to a French
manufacture.
-
"Devisme à Paris" on top of the barrel.
-
"Devisme breveté (patented) à Paris" on the right side of the barrel.
It has
some features that I have never encountered on this model:
- fixing
of a piece on the right side of the carcass by two screws.
- rock
not cut into the mass as usual but attached and fixed by two screws.
- hammer
made in two parts instead of being mono-piece with the firing pin.
Without
being sure, I could imagine that it could be one of the very first versions of
this variant, which was perhaps only in its infancy.
I had
already noticed differences on an 1855 model, very close to the prototype, which
I had not been able to define on the basis of the writings of Monsieur Henri
Vuillemin.
It would
therefore appear that Devisme manufactured variants that remained unknown.
